Chef Lionel Mugol has spent over two decades mastering the art of sushi, blending traditional Japanese technique with a modern, elevated approach to dining.
His journey began in 2003 at White Lotus in Hollywood, where he trained under traditional Japanese sushi chefs who instilled in him the discipline, precision, and deep respect that define true Edomae craftsmanship. He later spent seven years at Takami in Downtown Los Angeles, where he refined his skills and played a key role in opening one of the city’s early sashimi-focused concepts.
For over a decade in Newport Beach, Chef Lionel curated high-end sushi experiences for executives, celebrities, and private clientele—earning a reputation for exceptional quality, consistency, and creative execution. It was during this time that he began offering private omakase experiences, bringing the intimacy and elegance of a sushi bar directly into his clients’ homes.
Today, as Head Chef at Kiitsu in Brentwood, he has revitalized the restaurant with his signature style—clean, balanced flavors, pristine fish, and thoughtful presentation.
